How effective carpet steam cleaning is?

Many professional cleaners will advertise their services for the deep cleaning of carpets. It is one of the most in- mand services for homeowners, which is understandable due to the high price tag of most carpets. Steam cleaners are mostly used on hard floor surfaces, with specialist carpet cleaning equipment used to penetrate deep into the carpet fibres. Using steam cleaners on carpet surfaces is not a deep clean.

What you are doing is penetrating deep into the carpet fibres, killing dust mites on impact with the heat from the steam, and eliminating 99% of the bacteria lingering beneath the surface. What a steam cleaner will not do is lift ALL the dirt from deep under the carpet piles. They are not designed to do that as they do not have the suction power. If you have ever heard someone say their carpets tend to get dirty faster after steam cleaning them, then that is the reason why. The ground in dirt will still be deep in the carpet, but all the bacteria will be inactive.

The steam penetration will rejuvenate the carpet piles, giving a revamped look, but if that is all the cleaning that is being done, it will need to be done at regular intervals. It is easier, faster and environmentally friendly to steam clean a carpet more regularly than it is to use deep carpet cleaning equipment; often used in conjunction with harsh cleaning chemicals. In essence, steam cleaning carpets gives them a deep clean to kill bacteria, but the disadvantage is that the underlying ground-in dirt will not be lifted. It will rise back up to the surface, requiring additional steam cleaning.

Consider a carpet cleaning schedule of monthly steam cleaning of carpets, eliminating the bacteria, allowing for a periodic deep carpet cleaning to be done every six, nine, or twelve months, as required.
